Publication Ethics

These ethics apply to all individuals involved in the publication process of articles in the International Journal of Population Issues, including authors,  editors, advisory board members,  peer-reviewers, and the publisher (LITPAM). These standards are based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors

Duties of the Managing Editor

The managing editor of International Journal of Population Issues is responsible for overseeing the entire publication process, from receiving manuscripts to the publication of the manuscripts. This process includes tasks such as copyediting, proofreading, formatting, ensuring timely publication, and securing that the journal complies with relevant laws and regulations concerning the publication of academic articles.

Duties of Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors

The editor-in-chief of International Journal of Population Issues has a critical role in determining which manuscripts are accepted for publication. In this process, the editor-in-chief engages some associate editors to review the manuscripts.  The editor-in-chief and associate editors should ensure the manuscripts meet high standards by implementing a rigorous and anonymous peer review process;  creating editorial policies and guidelines that cover conflicts of interest, data fabrication,  and plagiarism; communicating effectively with the authors, providing information on the status of the submission; and promoting the International Journal of Population Issues to potential authors worldwide. The editor-in-chief and associate editors should be fair and objective when evaluating the manuscripts, refraining from any kind of discrimination based on the authors’ sexual orientations, religious or political beliefs, or ethnic and geographical backgrounds.

Duties of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to  International Journal of Population Issues should ensure that the following criteria are met. The first is the originality of the manuscripts, that the manuscripts have not been published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere. The second is the high quality of the manuscripts in clearly written English. The third is the significant contribution of the manuscripts to the academic literature or policy making. The fourth is adherence to the ethical guidelines including obtaining consent for any research involving human or animal subjects and avoidance of plagiarism. The fifth is the accuracy of the authorship as well as the contribution and affiliation of each author. The sixth is the absence of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism

Duties of Reviewers

The responsibilities of the reviewers include ensuring that the assigned manuscript aligns with their respective areas of expertise. The reviewers are expected to carry out a comprehensive and objective evaluation of the manuscripts and provide comments that are comprehensible to both editor and authors. They are also expected to maintain confidentiality throughout the review process and refrain from using the manuscripts for any other purposes. Lastly, the reviewers are required to adhere to the timeline provided by the editors.

Duties of the Publisher - LITPAM

LITPAM as the publisher of International Journal of Population Issues is accountable for a range of tasks. The first is the adherence to standard international practice in academic journals. The second is the overseeing production and distribution process, which includes managing the journal’s website,  online system of submission, copyediting, and printing. The third is marketing the journal, including approaching potential contributors. The fourth is financial management, which includes the implementation of the payment system for the articles processing charge (APC). The fifth is the archiving of all published content and verifying that the archive is readily accessible to readers.
