Pemanfaatan Minyak Maggot untuk Lilin Aromaterapi sebagai Implementasi 3R dan Ekonomi Sirkular di Bank Sampah Sumur Batu

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan meningkatkan nilai tambah budidaya maggot di Bank Sampah Sumur Batu melalui hilirisasi minyak maggot menjadi produk lilin aromaterapi, sebagai bentuk implementasi konsep 3R dan ekonomi sirkular yang berkelanjutan. Mitra telah mampu mengolah sampah organik dengan maggot, namun belum memiliki produk turunan yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi dan berdaya saing pasar. Kegiatan PkM meliputi pelatihan budidaya maggot berorientasi produksi minyak, teknik ekstraksi minyak maggot, formulasi dan pembuatan lilin aromaterapi, serta penguatan manajemen usaha dan pemasaran digital untuk mendukung keberlanjutan usaha. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa formulasi optimal lilin aromaterapi menggunakan komposisi 30 g beeswax, 35 g soywax, dan 20 ml minyak maggot, yang menghasilkan kualitas aroma dan tekstur yang stabil. Perhitungan harga pokok produksi (HPP) menunjukkan biaya sebesar Rp22.500 per unit, dengan potensi harga jual Rp40.000, sehingga memberikan margin keuntungan yang menjanjikan bagi mitra. Evaluasi pre–post test menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan kemampuan teknis peserta, khususnya pada keterampilan pembuatan lilin yang meningkat dari nilai rata-rata 2,71 menjadi 4,07. Tingkat kepuasan peserta terhadap pelaksanaan program berada pada kategori tinggi dengan skor antara 4,00–4,43. Keberlanjutan program dirancang melalui rencana pemasaran berbasis digital, pengembangan variasi aroma dan kemasan ramah lingkungan, serta penguatan kelembagaan usaha komunitas agar produk lilin aromaterapi berbahan minyak maggot dapat menembus pasar lokal hingga regional secara berkelanjutan dan meningkatkan kemandirian ekonomi masyarakat.
Utilization of Maggot Oil for Aromatherapy Candles as an Implementation of 3R and Circular Economy at the Sumur Batu Waste Bank
Abstract
This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to increase the added value of maggot cultivation at the Sumur Batu Waste Bank through downstream processing of maggot oil into aromatherapy candles, as an implementation of the 3R concept and a sustainable circular economy. The partner community has been able to process organic waste using maggots; however, it has not yet developed high-value derivative products with market competitiveness. The program activities included training on maggot cultivation oriented toward oil production, maggot oil extraction techniques, formulation and production of aromatherapy candles, as well as strengthening business management and digital marketing to ensure business sustainability. The results indicate that the optimal candle formulation consists of 30 g of beeswax, 35 g of soy wax, and 20 ml of maggot oil, producing stable aroma quality and texture. The calculation of the cost of goods sold shows a production cost of IDR 22,500 per unit, with a potential selling price of IDR 40,000, indicating a promising profit margin for the partner community. Pre–post evaluation demonstrates a significant improvement in participants’ technical skills, particularly in candle-making, with the mean score increasing from 2.71 to 4.07. Participant satisfaction with the program implementation was high, with scores ranging from 4.00 to 4.43. The sustainability of the program is supported through a digital-based marketing plan, the development of diverse scents and eco-friendly packaging, and the strengthening of community-based business institutions, enabling maggot oil–based aromatherapy candles to expand into local and regional markets while enhancing long-term community economic independence
