Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam memproduksi serta memanfaatkan pestisida nabati sebagai strategi pengendalian hama yang berkelanjutan di Desa Padang Tumbuo, Kabupaten Tojo Una-Una. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi observasi awal, sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan demonstrasi pembuatan pestisida nabati berbasis tumbuhan lokal, serta evaluasi efektivitas kegiatan melalui pre-test dan post-test. Bahan utama yang digunakan dalam pembuatan pestisida nabati antara lain daun widuri, daun mimba, serai wangi, bawang putih, cabai, lengkuas dan daun sirsak. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman petani yang sangat signifikan. Pada tahap pre-test, sebanyak 71% peserta berada pada kategori “sangat tidak paham” dan tidak terdapat peserta pada kategori “paham” maupun “sangat paham”. Setelah pelaksanaan kegiatan (post-test), terjadi peningkatan yang drastis, di mana 89% peserta berada pada kategori “sangat paham” dan 19% pada kategori “paham”. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa metode pelatihan dan demonstrasi langsung sangat efektif dalam mentransfer pengetahuan serta membentuk sikap positif petani terhadap penggunaan pestisida nabati. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini berkontribusi nyata dalam meningkatkan kesadaran dan kapasitas petani untuk mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap pestisida kimia sintetis. kegiatan ini memiliki potensi besar untuk direplikasi dan dikembangkan di wilayah lain dengan permasalahan serupa, sebagai upaya mendukung pengurangan penggunaan pestisida kimia dan mendorong penerapan sistem pertanian yang berkelanjutan.

Innovation of Local Plant-Based Botanical Pesticides as an Effort for Sustainable Pest Control among Farmers in Padang Tumbuo Village

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in producing and utilizing botanical pesticides as a sustainable pest control strategy in Padang Tumbuo Village, Tojo Una-Una Regency. The implementation method includes initial observation, socialization, training, and demonstration of making botanical pesticides based on local plants, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of the activity through pre-tests and post-tests. The main ingredients used in making botanical pesticides include widuri leaves, neem leaves, lemongrass, garlic, chili, galangal, and soursop leaves. The evaluation results show a very significant increase in farmers' understanding. In the pre-test stage, 71% of participants were in the "very unclear" category and there were no participants in the "understanding" or "very understanding" categories. After the implementation of the activity (post-test), there was a drastic increase, where 89% of participants were in the "very understanding" category and 19% were in the "understanding" category. These findings indicate that the training and direct demonstration methods are very effective in transferring knowledge and forming positive attitudes of farmers towards the use of botanical pesticides. Overall, this activity contributes significantly to increasing farmers' awareness and capacity to reduce dependence on synthetic chemical pesticides. This activity has great potential for replication and development in other regions with similar challenges, as an effort to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and encourage the implementation of sustainable agricultural systems
