Abstract

Implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) through Sustainable Agricultural Extension in Dombu Village, Marawola Barat District, Sigi Regency

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge in implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) through sustainable agricultural extension in Dombu Village, Marawola Barat District, Sigi Regency. The main problem faced by farmers was the limited understanding of proper agricultural practices, indicated by the inappropriate use of chemical inputs and suboptimal farm management. The implementation method consisted of preparation, extension activities, and evaluation stages. The extension materials included the introduction to GAP concepts, balanced fertilization techniques based on soil analysis, integrated pest management (IPM), and proper harvesting and post-harvest techniques. The extension was delivered through interactive lectures and group discussions. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement of farmers’ knowledge. The results showed that the average knowledge score increased from 39.7 to 68.5, with an improvement percentage of 72.8%. The highest improvement was observed in integrated pest management, while the lowest was in harvesting and post-harvest aspects. These findings indicate that GAP-based agricultural extension is effective in enhancing farmers’ understanding and has the potential to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
