Abstract

Enhancing the Pedagogical Competence of Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Students through the Gallery Walk Strategy in Collaborative Active Learning

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the pedagogical competence of Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) students through the Gallery Walk strategy in collaborative active learning. The main problem faced by the students was their limited ability to connect pedagogical theory with operational active learning design, particularly in organizing learning activities, developing instructional media, managing group rotations, and designing assessments. The program employed a practice-based training and mentoring method with a participatory, collaborative, and reflective design. The participants consisted of 18 Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education students. The stages of the program included needs analysis, Gallery Walk training, mentoring in the development of learning tools, microteaching simulations, evaluation, and reflection. The instruments used in this program included questionnaires, observation sheets, product assessment rubrics, microteaching assessment sheets, reflection sheets, and activity documentation. The outputs of the program were Gallery Walk-based learning tools consisting of teaching modules/lesson plans, gallery media, student worksheets, guiding questions, and assessment rubrics. The results of the program showed improvements in all measured aspects, namely understanding of the Gallery Walk concept from 61.11% to 86.67%, quality of learning tools from 63.33% to 84.44%, microteaching skills from 62.22% to 82.78%, and reflection and revision skills from 66.67% to 88.33%. Therefore, the Gallery Walk strategy was proven effective in strengthening the pedagogical competence of prospective teachers in designing active, collaborative, communicative, and reflective learning.
