Abstract

Ethnoscience-Based Digital Teaching Material Training for Teachers at Sekolah Kebangsaan Manjoi 2, Malaysia

Abstract

Digital transformation requires teachers who can develop contextual teaching materials rather than merely operate applications. Sekolah Kebangsaan Manjoi 2 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia has rich local cultural potential, yet its use in digital teaching materials remains limited. The community service program was conducted in Monday, 20 July 2026, as a full-day face-to-face program at Sekolah Kebangsaan Manjoi 2 and aimed to strengthen the capacity of 24 teachers to design ethnoscience-based digital teaching materials integrated with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and virtual simulations such as PhET. A participatory training approach was implemented through socialization, conceptual sessions, local culture exploration, teaching-material design practice, mentoring, reflection, and sustainability planning. Data were obtained from observation, documentation, discussion notes, and review of initial artifacts, and were analyzed qualitatively and descriptively. The results indicate that teachers began to map relationships between cultural contexts and subject concepts, formulate authentic problems, and prepare initial structures for digital teaching materials. Participants also gained a framework for selecting technology based on learning objectives, access, readability, and learner needs. The handover of a cooperation document strengthened readiness for follow-up collaboration between Universitas Mataram and the partner school. The main outcomes were initial capacity building, design artifacts, and partnership readiness. The program contributes to SDG 4 through teacher capacity development and supports SDG 17 through cross-border educational partnership
