Permasalahan sampah yang semakin meningkat menjadi isu bersama yang harus dihadapi dan perlu solusi bersama. Di wilayah Segedong, Kabupaten Mempawah ternyata masyarakat kurang memperhatikan permasalahan sampah termasuk pengelolaannya. Permasalahan sampah berdampak pada bencana alam dan penyakit. Tujuan pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada siswa SMPN 03 Segedong adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman kepada siswa mengenai sampah, dampak sampah pada lingkungan, mampu membedakan sampah organik dan non organik dan cara kreativitas mengolah sampah menjadi barang yang bernilai guna. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan memberikan sosialisasi, edukasi dan workshop pengelolaan sampah. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah para pelajar karena agar pelajar mengerti sangat pentingnya pengelolaan sampah di lingkungan, serta membuat pelajar untuk dapat menanamkan kebiasaan mengelola sampah dengan baik. Hasil kegiatan berdasarkan hasil post-test adalah peningkatan pengetahuan siswa dalam menjaga lingkungan dan pengelolaan sampah plastik. Secara praktik para siswa berhasil membuat lima tempat sampah sesuai dengan pembagian lima kelompok dan tempat sampah ini digunakan untuk tempat pembuangan sampah di SMPN 03 Segedong.
Collaboration between the Palung Foundation and SMPN 03 Segedong Students in Plastic Waste Management Education and Creativity
The increasing waste problem is a common issue that must be faced and needs a joint solution. In the Segedong area, Mempawah Regency, it turns out that the community pays little attention to waste problems, including its management. The waste problem has an impact on natural disasters and diseases. The purpose of implementing community service for SMPN 03 Segedong students is to provide knowledge and understanding to students regarding waste, the impact of waste on the environment, being able to distinguish between organic and non-organic waste and how to be creative in processing waste into valuable goods. The method used is by providing outreach, education and waste management workshops. The target of this activity is students because students understand the importance of waste management in the environment, and make students able to instill the habit of managing waste properly. The results of the activities based on the post test are an increase in students' knowledge in protecting the environment and managing plastic waste. Practically the students succeeded in making five trash bins according to the distribution of the five groups and the trash bins were used for garbage disposal at SMPN 03 Segedong.
