Abstract

Enhancing Squat Long Jump Skills through Play-Based Learning in Elementary School Students

Abstract

This study aimed to enhance fifth-grade students’ squat long jump skills at SDN Manggong through a play-based learning approach. The research problem focused on students' low performance in basic long jump skills, specifically in activity level, takeoff, propulsion, and landing. The methodology used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted over two cycles, each with two sessions. Research instruments included observation sheets and questionnaires. Results showed a significant increase: students' activity level in the “Good” category rose from 68% in the first cycle to 100% in the second cycle. Takeoff, propulsion, and landing techniques also improved in the “Good” category, reaching 95%, 95%, and 89% in the second cycle, respectively. In conclusion, the play-based method effectively enhanced students' motor skills and motivation. It is recommended that PE teachers apply this approach to other physical skill instruction.
