The high prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia has driven an increase in demand for orthodontic treatment among adolescents. However, their understanding of treatment risks remains low, which can affect compliance and treatment outcomes. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in improving adolescents' understanding of orthodontic risk perception. The study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-tests and post-tests for the control and treatment groups. A total of 60 adolescents aged 14–18 years were divided equally into two groups. The psychoeducational intervention was delivered through educational leaflets designed to suit adolescent characteristics. Measurements were conducted using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity (r > 0.361) and reliability (Cronbach's Alpha > 0.80). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant increase in understanding in the treatment group (p = 0.000), while the control group experienced no significant change (p = 0.327). Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney test on the post-test results showed a significant difference between groups (p = 0.013). The highest increase was in oral hygiene behavior. These results indicate that psychoeducation is effective in improving physical risk literacy, attitudes toward psychological risks, and oral health behaviors in adolescents. These findings support the application of psychoeducation as a promotive intervention strategy in orthodontic services based on an educational and psychological approach that is appropriate to the characteristics of today's youth.
