This study aims to analyze the effect of interpersonal communication on the adaptation of new students in distance learning systems at Universitas Terbuka. The main problem addressed in this study is the low level of student adaptation caused by limited interaction in online learning environments. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring interpersonal communication and student adaptation and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that students’ interpersonal communication is at a moderate to high level while their adaptation level is categorized as fairly good. Hypothesis testing reveals that interpersonal communication has a positive and significant effect on student adaptation. This finding suggests that effective interpersonal communication enhances students’ ability to understand learning materials build social interactions and adjust to technology-based learning environments. In conclusion interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in supporting students’ adaptation in distance learning systems.
