Social media fatigue refers to cognitive, emotional, and behavioral exhaustion that may accompany social media use during emerging adulthood. This study examined differences in social media fatigue by sex among emerging adults in Padang City. A quantitative comparative-descriptive design was used. The sample comprised 109 respondents aged 18–25 years, including 70 males and 39 females, recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a five-point Likert Social Media Fatigue Scale and analyzed with the Mann–Whitney U test because the score distribution did not meet the normality assumption. The results indicated a significant difference between the groups (U = 948.50; Z = −2.637; p = .008). Male respondents had a higher mean rank (60.95) than female respondents (44.32), with an effect size of r = .25. Thus, males in this sample tended to report higher social media fatigue, although the magnitude of the difference was limited. Because information overload, fear of missing out, platform use, and coping strategies were not measured, the findings do not establish an explanatory mechanism. The study supports digital well-being assessment that recognizes user heterogeneity and further research with more representative samples.
