Grade VIII Students’ Understanding of Basic Volleyball Techniques in Physical Education Learning
Abstract
This study aimed to describe Grade VIII students’ understanding of basic volleyball techniques at SMPN 3 Lambitu Satap. A descriptive quantitative survey design was used. The sample consisted of 50 students selected through proportional random sampling from 215 Grade VIII students. The instrument was a closed-ended multiple-choice test covering indicators of mentioning, translating, integrating information, explaining basic movements, and explaining volleyball rules and facilities. Data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and categories. The results showed that students’ understanding was generally in the moderate category. The strongest indicator was students’ ability to integrate their information with the material delivered by the teacher, while the indicator requiring the most improvement was translating basic techniques. The study concludes that volleyball learning should balance theory, demonstration, practice, feedback, and evaluation.
