The Effect of Target Shooting Training Variations on Shooting Accuracy among 13-Year-Old Soccer Players
Abstract
This study aimed to determine the improvement in shooting accuracy among 13-year-old SSB Mars Praya players after target shooting training variations. The study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 players selected through total sampling. The research instrument was the Bobby Charlton Shooting Test, which measures shooting accuracy based on goal scoring zones. The training program consisted of 12 sessions over four weeks using six target shooting variations. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Because the posttest and gain-score data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used as the main analysis. The results showed an increase in mean score from 90.50 to 156.00, with all players improving. The Wilcoxon test showed Z = -3.931, p < .001, and effect size r = .88. In conclusion, shooting accuracy improved significantly after target shooting training, although the findings should be interpreted cautiously due to the absence of a control group.
