Effect of PVC-Pipe Goal Target Media on Petanque Athletes’ Shooting Ability
Abstract
Shooting accuracy is a major problem in petanque because the ball often lands before the target, deviates from the intended trajectory, or fails to hit the target consistently. This study aimed to identify changes in shooting ability among Diah Lukitasari Petanque Club athletes after training with a modified target medium in the form of a PVC-pipe goal. A one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group was used. The sample consisted of 15 active athletes who completed a pretest, 18 training sessions, and a posttest. The instrument was a petanque shooting test scored 5, 3, 1, and 0 based on shot quality. The results showed that the total score increased from 117 to 195 points, while the mean score increased from 7.80 to 13.00. The paired-sample t-test indicated a significant difference, t(14) = -8.981, p < .001. The study concludes that shooting ability improved after training with PVC-pipe goal media. Coaches are recommended to use this medium to train ball trajectory, landing point, release consistency, and shooting accuracy.
