Penggunaan Media Dinding Kata untuk Meningkatkan Pembendaharaan Kosakata Siswa

Pelatihan penggunaan media dinding kata dilaksanakan oleh tim Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) Universitas Indraprasta PGRI di Rumah Belajar Sepuluh Dua, Tanjung Barat, Jakarta Selatan, untuk meningkatkan pembendaharaan kosakata siswa sekolah dasar. Kegiatan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh minimnya variasi metode dan media pembelajaran yang digunakan tutor relawan, yang sebagian besar berasal dari latar belakang non-pendidikan. Padahal, penguasaan kosakata merupakan salah satu komponen penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar, terutama untuk mendukung keterampilan membaca, menulis, mendengarkan, dan berbicara. Pelatihan mencakup dua fokus utama, yaitu perencanaan pembelajaran yang baik serta pemanfaatan media dinding kata secara kreatif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa tutor lebih terampil menyusun rencana pembelajaran yang melibatkan siswa secara aktif, serta mampu mendesain media dinding kata yang sesuai dengan tingkat perkembangan siswa. Dampak positif yang terlihat meliputi meningkatnya motivasi belajar siswa dan kesiapan tutor untuk mempraktikkan metode interaktif di kelas. Implikasi dari kegiatan ini adalah pentingnya pemberdayaan tutor melalui pelatihan berkelanjutan, pemanfaatan media sederhana yang efektif, serta keterlibatan aktif berbagai pihak di lingkungan sekitar agar tercipta ekosistem pembelajaran yang lebih kreatif, menyenangkan, dan berkelanjutan.
The Use of Word Wall Media to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery
The training on the use of word wall media was conducted by the Community Service (PkM) team of Universitas Indraprasta PGRI at the Sepuluh Dua Learning House, Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta, aiming to improve the vocabulary mastery of elementary school students. This activity was motivated by the lack of variety in teaching methods and media used by volunteer tutors, most of whom come from non-education backgrounds. In fact, vocabulary mastery is one of the crucial components in English language learning at the elementary level, particularly to support reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The training focused on two main areas: effective lesson planning and the creative use of word wall media. The results showed that tutors became more skilled in preparing lesson plans that actively engage students and were able to design word wall media suited to the students’ developmental levels. Positive impacts observed included increased student motivation and improved tutor readiness to implement interactive methods in the classroom. The implications of this program highlight the importance of empowering tutors through ongoing training, utilizing simple yet effective learning media, and fostering active involvement from various local stakeholders to create a more creative, enjoyable, and sustainable learning ecosystem
