Pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga merupakan isu global yang erat kaitannya dengan pola konsumsi dan produksi masyarakat. Menyikapi hal ini, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di lingkungan Paroki St. Maria Theresia difokuskan pada upaya peningkatan kapasitas warga dalam memanfaatkan limbah rumah tangga secara produktif. Program ini menggunakan pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif berbasis prinsip 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), yang mencakup pelatihan konsep dasar dan teknik pengolahan limbah, serta pendampingan dalam pembuatan produk daur ulang bernilai ekonomis. Pelatihan mendorong partisipasi aktif warga, sementara pendampingan memfasilitasi eksplorasi kreativitas dan pemanfaatan limbah menjadi barang yang memiliki nilai jual. Hasil program menunjukkan dampak positif, yaitu berkurangnya volume sampah dan meningkatnya pendapatan rumah tangga melalui penjualan produk hasil daur ulang, baik di komunitas gereja maupun secara daring. Selain itu, program ini memperkuat solidaritas sosial dan gotong royong. Sebanyak 85% peserta mengalami peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam pengelolaan sampah. Dengan demikian, pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif terbukti efektif sebagai solusi berkelanjutan untuk mendukung ekonomi lokal dan pelestarian lingkungan.
Education on Household Waste Management and Utilization to Improve the Community Economy in the St. Maria Theresia Parish, Klaten
Household waste is a global environmental issue largely driven by patterns of consumption and production. In response, a community service initiative was implemented in the St. Maria Theresia Parish to enhance residents' capacity to manage and repurpose household waste in economically productive ways. The program adopted an educational and participatory approach based on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), combining training sessions with hands-on mentoring. Training focused on introducing the 3R concept and basic waste processing techniques, while mentoring supported creative recycling practices and helped participants identify the economic potential of their products. The outcomes demonstrated positive impacts: waste volume was reduced, and household incomes increased through the sale of recycled products via church community events and digital platforms. Additionally, the initiative fostered social cohesion through collaborative efforts. Notably, 85% of participants showed improved understanding and creativity in utilizing household waste. This educational-participatory model has proven to be an effective and sustainable solution, supporting local economic resilience and environmental preservation.
