Increasing the Potential of Coastal Communities Based on the Community-Based Integrated Coastal Management System (CB-ICMS) Method Towards a Prosperous, Independent Maritime Village of Mangunharjo
Mangunharjo Village, located in Tugu District, Semarang City, possesses abundant natural potential in the form of fishery and mangrove products, yet this potential has not been optimally utilized. The main challenges faced by the fishing community include a low selling price for fresh fish, a lack of processed product variations, and limited understanding of digital marketing. Furthermore, social issues such as low literacy rates and a high incidence of bullying among children are prevalent. This community service program aimed to enhance the potential of the coastal community through the Community-Based Integrated Coastal Management System (CB-ICMS) method, aspiring to become a Prosperous and Self-Sufficient Maritime Village. The activities began with a comprehensive problem identification phase, which included surveys, direct observation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The program was implemented through three main pillars: (1) economic improvement via training on processed fish product diversification (such as nuggets and canned fish) and digital marketing assistance; (2) natural resource utilization through innovative food processing training from mangrove leaves; and (3) social empowerment through literacy and anti-bullying programs for children. The results indicate an increase in the community's capacity to process high-value products, raise awareness of the economic potential of mangroves, and foster an understanding of the importance of education and a supportive social environment. In conclusion, the integrated CB-ICMS approach proved effective as a model for holistic empowerment, capable of addressing the multi-dimensional challenges in Mangunharjo Village and creating a foundation for the self-sufficiency and prosperity of the coastal community
