Maternal and Child Health Counseling in the Context of Improving the Level of Community Health at the Integrated Service Center (Posyandu) Slipi Village
Abstract
The rising maternal and neonatal mortality rates, limited vaccination coverage, and restricted availability of healthcare facilities pose major challenges for the community. Therefore, this study aims to deliver benefits that enhance residents’ understanding in Slipi Subdistrict of the importance of maternal and child health, including beneficial health behaviors such as a nutritious diet, vaccination, and antenatal services. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The findings indicate that discussion sessions are the most effective method for improving community knowledge. The outreach process was carried out well despite several limitations. The health status of the Slipi community varies, with life expectancy ranging from the early 40s to 70 years. The results also show that most families routinely participate in nutrition monitoring at the posyandu (integrated service post). Supporting factors for the outreach process include resource availability, accessibility, easily reachable locations, and community support. The main inhibiting factor is the prevailing culture within the community. Consequently, health workers and community cadres at the Slipi posyandu have been conducting maternal and child health education to improve the community’s overall health status.
