The Difference in the Tendency of Body Dysmorphic Disorder Among Boarding and Non-Boarding Students at SMAK St. Gregorius Reo, Manggarai Regency
Abstract
Body dissatisfaction has become an increasingly common phenomenon among adolescents, known in psychology as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). This condition can affect adolescents’ psychological well-being and social interactions, particularly in different living environments such as dormitories and non-dormitories. This study aims to examine the differences in the tendency of Body Dysmorphic Disorder between students living in dormitories and those living outside dormitories at SMAK St. Gregorius Reok, Manggarai Regency. This research employed a quantitative method with a cluster sampling technique involving 217 students, consisting of 88 dormitory students and 129 non-dormitory students. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results showed a significant difference in the tendency of Body Dysmorphic Disorder between the two groups (p = 0.001; p < 0.05; T = -15.828). These findings indicate that living environment plays an important role in shaping students’ body perception and satisfaction. Therefore, schools and dormitory administrators are encouraged to provide psychological support and education on developing a positive body image among students.
