The Influence of Production Costs, Operating Costs, Promotional Costs, and Sales Volume on Net Profit in the Manufacturing Sector

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of production costs, operational costs, promotional costs, and sales volume on net profit in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2021–2024. The background of this study is based on the importance of net profit as a key indicator of financial success and operational efficiency of a company. The research method used is a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis techniques applied to secondary data in the form of annual financial statements of the companies. From a total of 740 initial observation data, an outlier detection and data transformation process was conducted to meet classical assumptions, resulting in a final sample of 540 respondents used for analysis. The analysis results show that simultaneously, the four independent variables have a significant effect on net profit. Partially, operational costs, promotional costs, and sales volume have a positive and significant effect on net profit. However, production costs do not have a significant partial effect. The coefficient of determination of 99.7% indicates that variations in net profit are strongly explained by these variables. Promotional costs are proven to be the most dominant variable influencing profit. This research provides practical implications for company management in optimizing cost structures and marketing strategies to sustainably improve profitability.
