The Effect of OSH Knowledge, Supervision, and Rewards on the Safety Behavior of Unit III Workers at PT X
Abstract
This research is motivated by the high risk of occupational accidents in the steel pipe manufacturing industry due to unsafe actions. This study aimed to analyze the effect of OHS knowledge, supervision, and reward on the safety behavior of workers at Unit III PT. X in Surabaya. This quantitative observational study used a cross-sectional design. The research subjects were 94 production workers selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and the Critical Behavior Checklist (CBC) observation. The validity and reliability of the instruments were confirmed. Data analysis utilized Rank Spearman correlation and Ordinal Logistic Regression. The results showed the majority of workers had good safety behavior (79.8%). There was a positive and significant effect of OHS knowledge (p < 0.001; r = 0.386) and reward (p = 0.014; r = 0.253) on safety behavior. However, supervision had no significant partial effect (p = 0.116). Simultaneously, OHS knowledge, supervision, and reward significantly affected safety behavior with a determination coefficient of 60.2%. In conclusion, good OHS understanding and an adequate reward system are the main determinants in independently shaping safety behavior among steel pipe manufacturing workers.
