Development of a Science Process Skills Rubric for Reaction Rate Practicum Based on Local Lombok Wisdom
Abstract
This study aims to develop a rubric for assessing science process skills in reaction rate contexts, grounded in local Lombok wisdom. It is classified as a development research using the development and validation method adapted from Adams and Wieman. The draft rubric was validated by five expert validators—comprising chemistry teachers and chemistry lecturers. Validation results using Aiken’s V formula indicated that all rubric items were deemed valid. Reliability testing using the Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) yielded a score of 0.512, categorized as moderate. The draft rubric revealed differing science process skills across each factor. Specifically, the number of observed science process skills was as follows: 4 for surface area, 5 for temperature, 6 for concentration, and 6 for catalysts. A limited trial was conducted with one group of students performing a practical experiment on the effect of temperature on the rate of fermentation of glutinous rice tape—a traditional Lombok food. The trial results showed that science process skills emerged during the practical activity. However, students’ ability to construct graphs was still relatively low. The science process skills rubric remains eligible for further development and adaptation for other chemistry laboratory courses.
