The Role of Digital Platforms in Encouraging Sports Participation and Reducing Sedentary Behavior
Abstract
The development of digital platforms has significantly transformed human behavior patterns, particularly in physical activity and sedentary lifestyles. This study aims to analyze the role of digital platforms in promoting sports participation and reducing sedentary behavior through a literature review approach. The method employed is a literature review by examining various scientific articles from relevant academic databases published between 2016 and 2025. The results indicate that digital platforms such as social media, fitness applications, and mobile technologies play a strategic role in increasing physical activity by providing information, motivation, and interactive features such as gamification and activity tracking. Furthermore, digital-based interventions have proven effective in reducing sedentary time, although their effectiveness depends on user engagement, content quality, and social support. Digital platforms also function as health promotion tools capable of reaching a wide audience and raising awareness about the importance of an active lifestyle. Therefore, optimizing the use of digital platforms can serve as an innovative strategy to enhance sports participation and sustainably reduce sedentary behavior.
