Implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model to Improve Learning Outcomes in Floor Gymnastics Basic Front Roll Technique for Grade V Students at SDN 1 Landasan Ulin Selatan
Abstract
This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in floor gymnastics material, particularly the basic front roll technique in Grade V at SDN 1 Landasan Ulin Selatan. In addition, the learning process was still dominated by the teacher, resulting in limited student participation during classroom activities. Although Problem Based Learning (PBL) has been widely implemented in physical education learning, classroom action research examining how PBL supports elementary students’ mastery of front roll skills through problem identification, group discussion, and movement practice is still limited. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted collaboratively in two cycles, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages in each cycle. The subjects of the study were 19 fifth-grade students of SDN 1 Landasan Ulin Selatan. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed descriptively using quantitative and qualitative approaches by comparing the results of the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results showed an increase in learning mastery from 42% in the pre-cycle to 53% in Cycle I and increased further to 84% in Cycle II. Observation results also indicated improvements in students’ activeness, confidence, and cooperation during the learning process. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model supported the improvement of students’ learning outcomes in the basic front roll technique within the observed classroom context.
