The Effectiveness of Formative Gymnastics Through the Discovery Learning Model in Improving Students' Motor Coordination at SMPN 13 Banjarbaru
Abstract
This study was motivated by the importance of motor coordination in physical education and the need for learning models that can enhance students' active participation. The study aimed to determine the improvement of students' motor coordination at SMPN 13 Banjarbaru through formative gymnastics learning using the Discovery Learning model. This study employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a motor coordination test that had been proven valid and reliable. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the mean motor coordination score increased from 5.35 in the pretest to 12.13 in the posttest, with an improvement of 6.78 points. The paired-samples t-test indicated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (t = -33.772; df = 30; p < 0.001). These findings suggest that students' motor coordination improved significantly after participating in formative gymnastics learning through the Discovery Learning model. Therefore, formative gymnastics implemented through the Discovery Learning model has the potential to serve as an alternative instructional approach for improving students' motor coordination at SMPN 13 Banjarbaru.
