Pemanfaatan Limbah Sekam Padi sebagai Media Tanam untuk Meningkatkan Kualitas Bibit Cabai

Pemanfaatan limbah pertanian sebagai media tanam alternatif merupakan salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan nilai guna limbah organik sekaligus mendukung efisiensi budidaya tanaman hortikultura. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pemanfaatan limbah sekam padi sebagai media tanam terhadap kualitas bibit cabai yang diukur melalui parameter tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, diameter batang, panjang akar, dan berat segar bibit. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen dan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri atas empat perlakuan media tanam, yaitu P0 (100% tanah), P1 (75% tanah + 25% sekam padi), P2 (50% tanah + 50% sekam padi), dan P3 (25% tanah + 75% sekam padi). Sekam padi yang digunakan merupakan sekam padi mentah yang diperoleh dari penggilingan padi di Desa Aek Goti. Setiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak tiga kali sehingga diperoleh 12 unit percobaan. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas, homogenitas, dan analisis varians (ANOVA) pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan sekam padi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap seluruh parameter pertumbuhan bibit cabai. Perlakuan terbaik diperoleh pada P2 yang menghasilkan tinggi tanaman 16,74 cm, jumlah daun 10,13 helai, diameter batang 3,12 mm, panjang akar 12,67 cm, dan berat segar 6,25 g. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa campuran 50% tanah dan 50% sekam padi mampu menciptakan kondisi media tanam yang lebih optimal untuk mendukung pertumbuhan bibit cabai dibandingkan media tanah tanpa campuran. Dengan demikian, sekam padi berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai alternatif media tanam pada kegiatan pembibitan cabai.
Utilization of Rice Husk Waste as a Growing Medium to Improve the Quality of Chili Pepper Seedlings
Abstract
The utilization of agricultural waste as an alternative growing medium is a promising approach to increasing the value of organic waste while improving the efficiency of horticultural crop cultivation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of rice husk waste utilization as a growing medium on the quality of chili pepper seedlings, as measured by plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root length, and fresh seedling weight. The study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method and a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four growing media treatments: P0 (100% soil), P1 (75% soil + 25% rice husk), P2 (50% soil + 50% rice husk), and P3 (25% soil + 75% rice husk). The rice husk used in this study was raw rice husk obtained from local rice mills in Aek Goti Village. Each treatment was replicated three times, resulting in a total of 12 experimental units. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of rice husk significantly affected all observed growth parameters of chili pepper seedlings. The best performance was obtained from treatment P2, which produced a plant height of 16.74 cm, 10.13 leaves, a stem diameter of 3.12 mm, a root length of 12.67 cm, and a fresh weight of 6.25 g. These findings indicate that a growing medium consisting of 50% soil and 50% rice husk provides more favorable conditions for chili pepper seedling growth than soil alone. Therefore, rice husk has the potential to be utilized as an alternative growing medium in chili pepper seedling production.
