Description of Students’ Mathematical Literacy Abilities Based On The Indicators, Of Formulating, Employing, And Interpreting
Abstract
This study is motivated by the im portance of students’ mathematical literacy skills in facing the challenges of 21st-century learning, particularly in solving contextual problems in probability topics. Empirical evidence shows that Indonesian students’ mathematical literacy remains relatively low, highlighting the need for in-depth analysis. This study aims t o analyze the mathematical literacy skills of tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 4 Mataram in solving probability problems. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects were selected purposively from tenth-grade students. Data collection techniques include mathematical literacy tests, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The indicators of mathematical literacy used in this study include formulating, employing, and interpreting. The results of this study are expected to provide an overview of students’ mathematical literacy levels, categorized into high, medium, and low levels. In addition, this study aims to identify students’ difficulties in solving probability problems. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers in designing more effective and contextual learning strategies to improve students’ mathematical literacy skills.
