Hubungan Fleksibilitas dan Nyeri Otot Doms pada Atlet Karate Lombok Barat

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) merupakan nyeri otot yang sering dialami atlet setelah melakukan latihan dengan intensitas tinggi dan dapat memengaruhi proses pemulihan serta performa latihan. Salah satu komponen kondisi fisik yang diduga berhubungan dengan tingkat nyeri DOMS adalah fleksibilitas, namun penelitian mengenai hubungan kedua variabel tersebut pada atlet karate masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara fleksibilitas dengan nyeri otot DOMS pada atlet karate Kabupaten Lombok Barat. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 33 atlet yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan V-Sit and Reach Test untuk mengukur fleksibilitas dan Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) untuk mengukur nyeri otot DOMS. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas (Shapiro-Wilk), uji Korelasi Pearson Product Moment untuk menganalisis hubungan antara fleksibilitas dan nyeri otot DOMS, serta koefisien determinasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan negatif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara fleksibilitas dengan nyeri otot DOMS (r = -0,814; p < 0,001). Fleksibilitas memberikan kontribusi sebesar 66,3% terhadap variasi nyeri otot DOMS, sedangkan 33,7% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak diteliti. Semakin baik tingkat fleksibilitas atlet, semakin rendah tingkat nyeri otot DOMS yang dialami setelah latihan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian bahwa fleksibilitas merupakan salah satu komponen kondisi fisik yang perlu mendapat perhatian dalam penyusunan program latihan guna mendukung proses pemulihan dan menjaga performa atlet.
The Relationship Between Flexibility and Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) Among Karate Athletes in West Lombok
Abstract
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is a common form of muscle pain experienced by athletes following high-intensity exercise and may affect the recovery process as well as training performance. One physical fitness component that is presumed to be associated with the severity of DOMS is flexibility. However, studies examining the relationship between these two variables among karate athletes remain limited. This study aimed to determine the relationship between flexibility and DOMS among karate athletes in West Lombok Regency. This research employed a quantitative approach using a correlational research design. The sample consisted of 33 athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the V-Sit and Reach Test to measure flexibility and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to assess DOMS intensity. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Pearson Product–Moment correlation analysis to examine the relationship between flexibility and DOMS, and the coefficient of determination. The results revealed a very strong and statistically significant negative correlation between flexibility and DOMS (r = −0,814, p < 0,001). Flexibility accounted for 66.3% of the variance in DOMS, while the remaining 33.7% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings indicate that athletes with higher levels of flexibility tend to experience lower levels of DOMS following exercise. Therefore, flexibility should be considered an essential component in the development of training programs to support recovery and maintain athletes' performance.
