Analysis of Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) Among Students at SDN 1 Piong
Abstract
Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) constitute the foundation for children's motor development and play a critical role in promoting physical activity, sports participation, and lifelong healthy lifestyles. Assessing FMS proficiency among elementary school students is essential for identifying movement competence and providing evidence for designing appropriate physical education programs. This study aimed to analyze the level of Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) among students at SDN 1 Piong using the Test of Gross Motor Development–Second Edition (TGMD-2). A quantitative descriptive research design was employed involving 30 elementary school students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the TGMD-2, which assesses six locomotor skills (run, gallop, hop, leap, horizontal jump, and slide) and six object-control skills (strike, dribble, catch, kick, overhand throw, and underhand roll). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including minimum and maximum scores, means, standard deviations, frequencies, and percentages with IBM SPSS Statistics version 29. The findings indicated that the mean locomotor score was 14.60 ± 1.28, with hop demonstrating the highest mean score (2.73 ± 0.45) and leap the lowest (1.97 ± 0.18). For object-control skills, the mean total score was 15.53 ± 1.63, where dribble and kick achieved the highest mean scores (2.67 ± 0.48), while overhand throw obtained the lowest (2.50 ± 0.51). These findings suggest that students' FMS proficiency varied across individual movement components, indicating that motor skill development had not yet reached a balanced level.
