Analysis of Differences in Gyaku-Tsuki Technical Skills between Athletes Using Stationary and Moving Target Training at Jonggat Karate Dojo Prestasi
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze differences in Gyaku-Tsuki technical skills between athletes using stationary-target and moving-target training at Jonggat Karate Dojo Prestasi. A quantitative approach with a non-experimental comparative design was employed. The sample consisted of 60 athletes, comprising 30 athletes in the stationary-target group and 30 athletes in the moving-target group, selected using purposive sampling. Gyaku-Tsuki technical skills were assessed using an instrument adapted from Srianto et al. (2023), covering initial stance, execution, and follow-through. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent-samples t-test. The results showed that the stationary-target group obtained a mean score of 2.76 (SD = 0.607), while the moving-target group obtained a mean score of 3.03 (SD = 0.663). The independent-samples t-test yielded t(58) = -1.639, p = 0.107, indicating no statistically significant difference in Gyaku-Tsuki technical skills between the two groups. These findings suggest that Gyaku-Tsuki technical performance is not determined solely by target type, but is also associated with kinetic-chain coordination, neuromuscular control, timing, perceptual-motor abilities, and training experience. Therefore, stationary and moving targets may be considered complementary training modalities for developing Gyaku-Tsuki technical skills in karate athletes.
