Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Smart Vending Machine in Core Pin Inventory Management Based on Key Performance Indicators Using the DMAIC Framework at PT XYZ
Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a smart vending machine in core pin inventory management using four Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) stock accuracy, availability, lead time, and traceability and to formulate improvement recommendations using the DMAIC framework. A quantitative descriptive-evaluative approach was applied to core pin inventory management in the Mold Maintenance Department of PT XYZ. Stock accuracy, availability, and traceability data covered January December 2025, while lead time data were obtained from 10 direct observations conducted on 8, 10, and 11 June 2026. Data were collected through system documentation and direct observation, followed by validation and analysis through Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. The results showed average stock accuracy of 92.57%, availability of 84.84%, lead time of 40.7 seconds, and traceability of 100% based on transaction-data completeness. The lowest availability was recorded in November 2025 at 80.56%, while the lowest stock accuracy occurred in February at 82.99%. The analysis indicates that system effectiveness is still influenced by user input accuracy, consistency of stock opname, follow-up of warning or zero-stock SKUs, and item-search efficiency. Recommended improvements include strengthening input procedures, priority-based cycle counting, monitoring warning/zero-stock SKUs, standardizing item-search information, sampling-based transaction verification, and establishing KPI targets.
