This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills in the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the material of heredity patterns of class XII of SMA Negeri 1 Pamekasan. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two stages, namely pre-cycle and cycle I, with research subjects of class XII-C as many as 37 students and class XII-D as many as 36 students. The application of PBL is carried out through essay tests related to the analysis of heredity cases. The test is given in the pre-cycle and cycle 1 stages with reference to indicators of critical thinking skills including interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and inferring. Data analysis is carried out descriptively quantitatively through the calculation of the average percentage and descriptive qualitatively to provide an overview of the results obtained from the quantitative analysis. The results of the study indicate that the application of PBL has the potential to improve students' critical thinking skills on the material of heredity patterns. In the pre-cycle stage, students' critical thinking skills were still in the sufficient to good category with an average of 59.375% (class XII-C) and 65.625% (class XII-D), after the application of the PBL model in cycle I there was an increase to 80.925% (class XII-C) and 82.925% (class XII-D) with a very good category. Thus, it can be concluded that this study shows a tendency to increase students' critical thinking skills after the application of the PBL model on the material of heredity patterns.
