The Effect of the School Health Program on Elementary Students’ Personal Hygiene
Abstract
Personal hygiene among elementary students remains a concern because some students do not consistently practice handwashing, nail care, clean clothing, body hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. This study aimed to examine the effect of the School Health Program (UKS) on the personal hygiene of fourth- and fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Kalijaga. This study used an associative quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The main sample consisted of all 64 fourth- and fifth-grade students selected through total sampling, while the principal and UKS/PJOK manager served as supporting respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and simple linear regression. The results showed that the School Health Program had a positive and significant effect on students’ personal hygiene, with a regression coefficient of 0.482, t-value of 4.151, significance value of 0.000, and R Square of 0.217. The study concludes that UKS contributes to improving students’ personal hygiene.
