Pemanfaatan Limbah Kulit Bawang Merah untuk Penguatan Agribisnis Hortikultura di Desa Sumberkeldung

Desa Sumberkledung, Kecamatan Tegalsiwalan, Kabupaten Probolinggo, merupakan salah satu sentra produksi bawang merah dengan produktivitas rata-rata lebih dari 9 ton/ha setiap musim. Aktivitas ini menghasilkan limbah kulit bawang merah dalam jumlah besar yang selama ini dibuang atau dibakar, sehingga menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan. Limbah tersebut sebenarnya mengandung senyawa organik dan mineral yang potensial diolah menjadi pupuk organik. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan dan pengetahuan kelompok tani dalam mengolah limbah kulit bawang merah menjadi pupuk organik bernilai tambah serta mendorong lahirnya peluang usaha ramah lingkungan. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi koordinasi awal, pelatihan teknis, praktik pembuatan pupuk organik bubuk dan cair, pendampingan kewirausahaan, serta evaluasi. Program diikuti oleh 15 petani anggota kelompok tani Desa Sumberkledung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata pengetahuan peserta sebesar 36% (dari skor 58,7 menjadi 79,9), seluruh peserta mampu memproduksi pupuk organik secara mandiri, dan terbentuk prototipe pupuk organik bubuk dengan kadar air 12% serta pupuk cair dengan pH 6,5 yang sesuai standar hortikultura. Selain itu, beberapa peserta mulai mengaplikasikan produk pada lahan mereka. Pendekatan yang digunakan tidak hanya meningkatkan kapasitas teknis, tetapi juga memperkuat keterampilan kewirausahaan dan strategi pemasaran, sehingga mampu mendorong diversifikasi pendapatan petani sekaligus mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan. Program ini berkontribusi terhadap pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), khususnya Tujuan 2 (Ketahanan Pangan), Tujuan 8 (Pekerjaan Layak dan Pertumbuhan Ekonomi), serta Tujuan 12 (Produksi dan Konsumsi yang Bertanggung Jawab).
Utilization of Shallot Skin Waste for Strengthening Horticultural Agribusiness in Sumberkledung Village
Sumberkledung Village, Tegalsiwalan District, Probolinggo Regency, is one of the main shallot production centers with an average productivity of more than 9 tons/ha per season. This activity generates large amounts of shallot skin waste, which is commonly discarded or burned, causing environmental pollution. In fact, this waste contains organic compounds and minerals that can be processed into organic fertilizers. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers’ skills and knowledge in converting shallot skin waste into value-added organic fertilizers while creating environmentally friendly business opportunities. The implementation consisted of initial coordination, technical training, hands-on practice in producing powdered and liquid organic fertilizers, entrepreneurship assistance, and evaluation. The program involved 15 members of the local farmer group. The results revealed an average knowledge increase of 36% (from 58.7 to 79.9), successful independent production of fertilizers by all participants, and the development of prototype powdered organic fertilizer with 12% moisture content and liquid fertilizer with a pH of 6.5, both meeting horticultural standards. Furthermore, some participants began applying the products to their fields. The adopted approach not only improved technical capacity but also strengthened entrepreneurship and marketing skills, thereby encouraging income diversification and reducing environmental pollution.
