Optimizing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Assessment Development: A Community Service at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Malang
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential abilities for students to navigate the complexities of the modern world. However, many teachers encounter challenges in assessing these skills effectively. Successful measurement of HOTS requires appropriate assessment methods. This community service initiative aims to support teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Malang in developing assessments aligned with HOTS. The selected method of this community service is professional development-based mentoring. Proposed activities include reviewing past HOTS learning, identifying assessment needs, creating evaluation tools, providing intensive training, and assisting with implementation. While 10 teachers participated in developing HOTS assessments, not all have integrated them into their teaching. The competency of participants improved significantly, as evidenced by questionnaire scores rising from an average of 76.25 before the service activities to 95.75 afterward. Through this approach, the project seeks to enhance students' HOTS, refine teachers' skills in crafting effective assessments, and address HOTS measurement challenges at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Malang.
