Dewantara Eco Seat: Transforming Plastic Waste into Valuable Furniture through Training-Based Program in Paket C Learning Group at Ki Hadjar Dewantara Foundation, Malang
The ecobrick chair and table-making training at the Paket C Learning Group of the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Foundation in Malang aims to raise community awareness and skills in managing plastic waste into valuable products. The main issue addressed is the high consumption of plastic bottles, which generates unmanaged waste and harms the environment. This project employed a participatory approach involving education sessions, technical demonstrations, and hands-on practice using used plastic bottles and fabric scraps. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants' ability to create eco-friendly furniture. The ecobrick chairs and tables produced are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and hold economic potential. Findings revealed that the training strengthened participants’ understanding of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and fostered a spirit of social entrepreneurship within the non-formal education setting. In conclusion, this training serves as an effective environmental education model and can be replicated on a larger scale to support community-based circular economies.
