Implementation of Progressive Muscle Relaxation Against Mental Emotional Disorders of Adolescents
Abstract
The health problems of emotional mental disorders experienced by teenagers are quite high. Ways that can be used to overcome emotional mental disorders are with progressive muscle relaxation. The research aims to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on mental emotional disorders in adolescents. This type of research is pre-experimental with a one group pre-test post-test design. The sample was selected using a purpusive sampling technique, namely students from class XI MIPA at one of the high schools in Gianyar Regency, totaling 34 respondents. The questionnaire measures emotional mental disorders using the Self Reporting Questionnaire-29 (SRQ-29). Analysis of the Wilcoxson Signed Rank Test data with a confidence level of 95% (?=0.05), because after testing the data for normality with Shapiro-Wilk, the data was not normally distributed. The research results showed that the average score for emotional mental disorders before being given treatment was 9.53 and the average after being given treatment was 7.32. There was a decrease in the average of emotional mental disorders by 2.21, which was significant. The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxson Signed Rank Test showed a p value of 0.000 that there was an effect of progressive muscle relaxation on emotional mental disorders in adolescents. Progressive muscle relaxation is effective in reducing mental emotional disorders in adolescents. It is recommended for teenagers to carry out progressive muscle relaxation therapy to overcome emotional mental disorders and of course their mental health will improve.
