Relationship Between Body Mass Index (BMI), Physical Activity, Sleep Quality and Stress Levels in Samapta Members of the North Lombok Police
Abstract
Stress is a psychological condition commonly triggered by excessive pressure, especially in high-demand professions such as the police force. Factors such as Body Mass Index (BMI), physical activity, and sleep quality play a crucial role in determining a person's stress level. An unbalanced BMI can trigger hormonal and metabolic changes that increase vulnerability to stress. Adequate physical activity serves as an adaptive mechanism, helping the body manage pressure through improved neural function and the release of stress-preventing hormones. Furthermore, good sleep quality provides an essential foundation for emotional stability and adaptability to stressful situations. The interaction of these three factors greatly influences mental balance and overall health. This study was conducted at the North Lombok Police Department using an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study evaluated the relationship between BMI, physical activity, and sleep quality on stress levels among Samapta officers. A total of 30 respondents participated in the study. Data analysis was performed using SPSS Version 23. The study results indicated that Body Mass Index (BMI) (P-value = 0.934, RS = 0.016, physical activity (P-value = 0.012, RS = -0.451) and sleep quality (P-value = 0.012, RS = -0.451) to stress levels among Samapta officers. There is no significant relationship between BMI and stress levels. However, there is a significant relationship between physical activity and sleep quality with stress levels among Samapta officers in the North Lombok Police Department.
