Design and Implementation of a Lifter in the Fuel Tank Installation Process to Reduce Musculoskeletal Complaints
Abstract
PT XYZ is a 4-wheeled vehicle manufacturing company. The Assembly Production Engineering Department is the department in charge of planning and making the vehicle assembly process run. One of the vehicle assembly processes is the fuel tank installation process, but in this process there are musculoskeletal complaints, namely the operator feels pain in his body after work. The Nordic Body Map (NBM) survey results show that 22 out of 28 body parts feel pain and the results of the Rapid Entire Body Assesment (REBA) show that the work is at high risk to health with an assessment result of 10 points. The root cause of this problem is production aids that do not support ergonomics at work. In this study the authors used the QCC (Quality Control Circle) method of 8 improvement steps. The results of this study are in the form of a tool for the fuel tank lifter & shutter production process based on a pneumatic system. By using this tool the fuel tank installation process can reduce the REBA results to 3 points which means the work is low risk to health and the NBM survey decreased to 8 out of 28 bodies that feel pain after work. In addition, this tool can also eliminate the problem of fuel tanks not going down on the flowrack that previously occurred.
