Abstract

Extracurricular Kids Athletics Sprint Ability Analysis Among Students of SDN 1 Landasan Ulin Utara

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the physical sprinting ability of elementary school students in the 40-meter event of the kids athletics extracurricular program. The study addresses the performance gap among students in basic athletic skills, particularly in under-resourced schools. A descriptive quantitative method with a survey approach was employed, involving 10 fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Landasan Ulin Utara. A 40-meter sprint test was used as the instrument, with data analyzed using SPSS version 22. Results showed that 50% of students were categorized as “Very Poor”, 40% as “Poor”, and only 10% as “Sufficient”, with an average time of 17.65 seconds. These findings indicate low mastery of fundamental motor skills, particularly speed. The study highlights the urgent need for game-based and interactive training approaches to enhance kids athletics programs. It also provides practical recommendations for physical education teachers and policymakers to develop contextual, evidence-based training models.
