Focus and Scope

The International Journal of Essential Competencies in Education (IJECE) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal focusing on the development, implementation, assessment, and sustainable advancement of essential competencies in education.

The journal welcomes scholarly contributions addressing critical thinking, creative thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, metacognition, scientific curiosity, design thinking, digital and technology literacy, competency-based assessment, and innovative educational practices.

IJECE publishes original research articles, review articles, commentaries, and theoretical or conceptual articles. Contributions from diverse educational disciplines are welcomed when they demonstrate clear relevance to the development or understanding of essential competencies.

Open Access Policy

IJECE provides immediate open access to its published scholarly content. All published articles are freely accessible to readers without subscription fees, paywalls, or embargo periods.

Authors retain copyright to their published works and grant the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) .

The journal supports the responsible sharing, distribution, adaptation, and reuse of scholarly publications in accordance with the applicable licensing terms.

The International Journal of Essential Competencies in Education (IJECE) is owned, published, and managed by Lembaga Penelitian dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (LITPAM), Indonesia, an organization engaged in supporting scholarly research, academic publication, and community empowerment.

LITPAM serves as the official publishing organization responsible for the institutional administration, publishing infrastructure, and operational sustainability of IJECE.

The journal operates through a defined editorial structure in which scholarly evaluation and publication decisions are the responsibility of the editorial leadership, supported by an international Editorial Board and qualified peer reviewers.

LITPAM is responsible for providing and maintaining the organizational and technical infrastructure necessary to support the publication and continued availability of the journal.

These responsibilities include the administration of the publishing platform, support for editorial operations, management of publication-related resources, maintenance of electronic publication records, and implementation of appropriate data backup and preservation arrangements.

Ownership of IJECE rests with LITPAM. The institutional affiliations of individual editors, reviewers, and authors do not constitute ownership of the journal by their respective institutions.

2. Editorial Management and Governance

IJECE is managed through an editorial structure consisting of an Editor-in-Chief, a Managing Editor, an Editorial Board, and independent peer reviewers.

The editorial leadership is responsible for maintaining scholarly quality, coordinating manuscript evaluation, implementing editorial policies, and supporting ethical and transparent publication practices.

The responsibilities of the publisher and editorial leadership are distinguished to promote accountable and transparent journal management.

Publisher Responsibilities

• Providing institutional and administrative support for journal publication.
• Maintaining the electronic publishing platform and supporting infrastructure.
• Supporting the implementation of publication and research integrity policies.
• Managing publication-related administrative and operational resources.
• Supporting digital archiving, monthly server backups, and data recovery arrangements.
• Promoting the continuity and accessibility of published scholarly content.

Editorial Responsibilities

• Implementing the journal's aims, scope, and editorial policies.
• Conducting initial manuscript screening and coordinating peer review.
• Selecting appropriately qualified and independent reviewers.
• Evaluating reviewer recommendations and manuscript revisions.
• Making editorial decisions based on scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and research integrity.
• Managing ethical concerns, conflicts of interest, corrections, and retractions in accordance with journal policies.
• Maintaining the quality and integrity of the scholarly publication process.

4. Editorial Independence

IJECE is committed to maintaining editorial independence and ensuring that decisions concerning manuscripts are based on scholarly merit and established editorial criteria.

The Editor-in-Chief and authorized handling editors are responsible for decisions regarding manuscript evaluation, revision, acceptance, and rejection.

Such decisions must not be influenced by inappropriate commercial, financial, institutional, or personal considerations.

The publisher supports the journal's editorial operations while respecting the academic judgment of the editorial leadership.

Any actual or potential conflicts of interest involving editors, reviewers, authors, or the publisher must be managed in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.

5. Publishing Infrastructure and Operational Support

IJECE is published electronically using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which supports manuscript submission, editorial management, peer review, production, and online publication.

LITPAM maintains supporting server infrastructure and performs monthly backups of journal data to facilitate recovery following technical errors, system failures, or other incidents affecting electronic records.

The journal also uses Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and maintains enabled LOCKSS and CLOCKSS preservation configurations within its OJS platform.
