Overview of Journal Sections
Article categories are determined by the nature of the scholarly contribution, not by academic discipline.

Two Article Types Across a Multidisciplinary Scope
Jurnal Penelitian dan Pengkajian Ilmu Pendidikan: e-Saintika accepts two principal article types: Original Research Articles and Review Articles. Both categories accommodate submissions within the journal's established areas of education, teaching and learning, natural sciences, applied sciences, and related interdisciplinary research.
The appropriate section is determined by what the manuscript contributes. Original Research Articles report new research findings or original scientific analyses, whereas Review Articles systematically or critically evaluate and synthesize existing scholarship. All manuscripts must demonstrate a clear contribution to knowledge, methodological appropriateness, and alignment with the journal's Focus and Scope.
Original Research Articles
Primary studies and original analyses that produce new scholarly evidence or understanding.
e-Saintika | Article Type 01
Original Research Articles
This section publishes original empirical, theoretical, computational, and methodological research that makes a meaningful contribution to the advancement of knowledge in education, natural sciences, applied sciences, and related interdisciplinary fields. Appropriate approaches may include quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, quasi-experimental, observational, design-based, computational, and analytical research, according to the research question.
Manuscripts should communicate new findings, analyses, models, methods, or evidence-based interpretations. A study's originality and scholarly value must be explained through a clear research problem and engagement with relevant prior literature.
Manuscript requirements:
- Present original scholarly work that has not been published as a journal article or submitted simultaneously to another journal; disclose any relevant prior dissemination.
- Identify the research problem, relevant research gap, scientific significance, and contribution to existing knowledge.
- Clearly state research objectives, questions, or hypotheses, as appropriate to the study.
- Describe the research design, setting or materials, sampling or data sources, procedures, instruments, and analyses with sufficient detail for critical evaluation and methodological transparency.
- Report findings accurately and interpret their meaning in relation to the research objectives and relevant theoretical or empirical literature.
- Discuss limitations and implications without drawing conclusions that exceed the available evidence.
- Provide at least 40 references, with at least 80% from primary scholarly sources published within the last 10 years, formatted in APA 7th edition.
- Include all applicable declarations required by the journal, including funding, author contributions, conflicts of interest, data availability, and research ethics.
The organization of the manuscript should follow the current Author Guidelines and official template, while allowing sufficient flexibility for the research design and disciplinary context.
Review Articles
Critical and systematic syntheses that clarify evidence, identify gaps, and advance scholarly understanding.
e-Saintika | Article Type 02
Review Articles
This section publishes scholarly reviews that critically examine, evaluate, and synthesize existing research in education, natural sciences, applied sciences, and related interdisciplinary fields. Suitable contributions include systematic literature reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, critical or integrative reviews, and other methodologically justified forms of research synthesis.
Bibliometric studies may be considered when their analyses are integrated with substantive interpretation or synthesis of the research literature. A review should contribute more than an inventory of publications, a descriptive summary of existing studies, or a visualization of publication patterns.
Manuscript requirements:
- State a clear review purpose, research question, or analytical focus that is relevant to the journal's scope.
- Establish the scholarly need for the review and its distinctive contribution beyond previously published reviews.
- Explain literature identification, eligibility or selection criteria, appraisal where appropriate, and methods of synthesis with sufficient transparency for readers to assess the review process.
- Use relevant reporting guidance, such as PRISMA for systematic reviews or PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews, where applicable to the selected design.
- For meta-analyses, describe statistical synthesis methods, heterogeneity, and applicable risk-of-bias or study-quality assessments.
- Critically compare evidence, identify agreements and contradictions, and assess limitations, research gaps, and unresolved questions.
- Explain theoretical, methodological, practical, or future-research implications arising from the synthesis.
- Provide at least 50 references, with at least 80% from primary scholarly sources published within the last 10 years, formatted in APA 7th edition.
- Include all mandatory publication declarations and any applicable ethical or AI-use disclosures.
The review structure should reflect the type of synthesis undertaken and must comply with the current Author Guidelines. Reporting checklists should be applied when relevant rather than treated as interchangeable requirements across all review designs.
Common Editorial Requirements
Shared expectations for manuscript preparation, research integrity, and editorial evaluation.

- Ensure the accuracy of author details and confirm that all listed authors have approved the submitted version.
- Prepare an appropriately anonymized review manuscript in accordance with the journal's double-anonymous peer-review process.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript, including the originality of the research or scholarly synthesis and compliance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
e-Saintika | Editorial Evaluation
Editorial Screening and Peer Review
Submissions to either section undergo an initial editorial assessment of their relevance, scholarly contribution, presentation, ethical compliance, and suitability for further evaluation. Manuscripts that do not satisfy the journal's editorial requirements may be returned for revision or declined at this stage.
Manuscripts selected for external review undergo double-anonymous peer review involving at least two independent reviewers with expertise appropriate to the subject and methodology. Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly merits of the submission, the reviewers' assessments, and the journal's policies. Acceptance for publication is not guaranteed by successful completion of the initial screening or peer-review process.
For manuscript preparation and online submission, consult the Author Guidelines and the Submission page.
